Loving this ScoutTrack program!
Big thanks to Michael and all the adult leaders with Southdale Pack 42 for telling me about this program!
This is a screen shot of what Owen and I have already done with his Bear Trail (the necessary 12 achievements). The program automatically knows which ones are mandatory and which ones can be relegated to be used in the "electives" column. Way cool! I think this will be a huge help in keeping all things CSA straight and a great way to better communicate with parents and leaders. If you didn't get an email about joining Scout Track, let me know and I'll resend the invite.
Super Sweet brag vests for patches
Did you know,Cub Scouts can only sport one specialty patch at a time on their uniform? A great way to sport all your scout's hard earned patches is through wearing a brag vest. Simply stick or stitch all your son's patches on this vest... in any order.
Just bought one of these for Owen and I was super impressed. Even with shipping it was only $17. The vest at the boyscout store was $15 and I'm far more impressed with the fabric/ design of this vest. It's canvas vs. felt, so I think it's way more durable. Here's the link.
Cub Scouts Academics and Sports Program
Great link that clearly describes all the different Academic and Sport Belt Loop and Pins your scout can earn. Click on specific category to get the details.
Here is a list of the belt loops we should be able to get during some pack meetings... hold off on doing these from home.
The rest are fair game. Do them from home with your scout and then email the cubmaster and you'll receive the achievement at the next meeting.

I'm thinking that one of the first loops we'll earn this year- probably in one or September or October- will be the Science Belt Loop. We can do this little activity in teams of two boys and one parent. They'll think about single variables and the scientific method to see if they can position their rocket to land on a big blue tarp out in the field behind the Orchard Hill playground. We would need parents to bring some two liter bottles for the scouts to experiment with. To complete the loop, I think I can hook us up with a science professor at UNI that can show us some aligators! FUN!!
